Sergeant GlanvillePolice sergeant stationed in the Eastern District.Q:What does black lives matter mean to you?
A:BLM to me is a loud and unorganized group that rather make noise than bring about real change. Their views are skewed and self-serving. Q:How do you think the BLM movement has impacted society? A:It has radicalized people. People who are dangerous and looking for a reason to do harm uses BLM and factions like this to carry out their plan. I have not seen anything positive come out of this movement. Q:Do you think black lives matter has caused any animosity towards police? A:Yes, absolutely Texas is a shining example. (2016 shooting of Dallas police officers) Q:In what ways do you think the black lives matter movement can become more effective? A:If it has a true leader, someone who understands the impact of social media and the influence it has. Q:What are your thoughts on Freddie Gray and his time in police custody? A:I believe he was injured prior to being arrested. I know for a fact he attempted to hurt himself more once he got in the wagon. I believe he contributed to his own death. (Glanville was very active during the Baltimore riots, talking and trying to reason with the citizens of Baltimore) Q:Do you think BLM is viewed positively or more negatively in the media/society? A:Negatively. Any group that promotes and violence and disrupts peace nothing positive can come from that. Q:Since BLM stemmed from events involving police brutality, do you believe that there could have been a better way to go about trying to change that? A:Absolutely through education, awareness, forums, etc. Q:What do you believe can be done by police or govt officials or just society as a whole to calm the movement? A:Community outreach bridging the gap between the citizens and the police/government. Understand that change is needed but must be done carefully. Q:Is there any current or upcoming training/policies being created towards ending police brutality? A:Yes, there have been a lot and still is a lot of policy changes that have put in place since Freddie Grey. Q:Do you believe there is a conversation that isn’t being had about BLM that would bring the two sides together? or at least help get ideas across to either side? A:I believe that BLM has hurt their own reputation by having idiots such as Kwame Rose as a voice. Starts off with leadership. Have someone who is intelligent enough to speak on behalf of the BLM movement Q:Do you believe that that BLM movement comes down to pro-police and anti-police or does it run deeper than that? A:No pretty much anti police movement |
